Kaufman
Lake offers outdoor fun for individuals and families. Picnic
tables are located around the lake, and a variety of activities
are scheduled throughout the year.
Individuals
or families can enjoy a hike or bike ride around the Lake
or adjacent recreational trail. Swiming is not allowed
at any time. During the winter months activities at the
Lake include ice skating and cross country skiing. The
Kaufman Lake fire ring is available for group or family
gatherings. Reservations must be made a minimum of five
business days in advance. Personal canoes and kayaks may
be used on Champaign Park District lakes as long as they
are registered with the Illinois Department of Conservation.

Radio
Controlled Boats
Remote controlled boats are welcome on Kaufman and Mattis
Lakes provided their operators follow lake rules, regulations, and
proper boat etiquette. Excessive noise is prohibited.
Canoes
Personal canoes any kayaks may be used on Park District
lakes as long as they are registered with the Illinois
Department of Conservation.
Ice
Skating
The southern portion of Kaufman Lake will be cleared for
winter ice skating.
Ice Covered Lake Rules and Regulations:

Ice
skating and other ice activities are permitted on Kaufman
Lake only when the ice coverage is at least eight (8)
inches or more.

For
your own safety, please stay off ice covered lakes when:
a. The post reads: NO SKATING, or
b. no flag, or a red flag is above the post
-
Ice
skating and other ice activities are permitted only
when:
a, the post reads: YES SKATING, or
b. the flag above the post is green.
- Bicycles,
motor-driven vehicles, or rough activities are not permitted on
ice covered lakes.
- For

Cross
Country Skiing
The Greenbelt Bikeway and Kaufman Laker perimeter are
available to cross country ski enthousiasts from 6:00
am - 11:00 pm daily.

Fishing
All State of Illinois fishing license requirements apply
at Kaufman Lake. The Lake is stocked with channel catfish,
large mouth bass, redear sunfish, and bluegill sunfish.
Daily catch limits:

2
channel catfish per person; no size limit.
- 1
large mouth bass per person; minimum 15" length.
- No large mouth bass under 15" may be taken.

No
size or catch limit on other species.
-
Carp
caught should be taken and disposed of in order to maintain
a healthy fish population in the lake.
